Introduction
Intentional course design is targeted to facilitate effective and engaging learning experiences for students to achieve specific outcomes. A course map Download course map serves as a foundational tool in this instructional design process as does the use of color-coding.
Why do it?
A course map:
- provides a comprehensive and visual representation of the overall structure of the course
- makes it easier to identify any gaps or redundancies
- maximizes the potential for successful learning outcomes
- maintains alignment among and between student learning outcomes (SLOs), learning activities, assessment, and feedback
- ensures content is logically sequenced
- provides flexibility to adapt and modify a course as needed
- surfaces areas for enhancement
Color-coding:
- strengthens alignment
- helps students better understand the assessment-objective alignment
- provides a flexible and fresh perspective for course design
