Why do it?

A course map:

  1. provides a comprehensive and visual representation of the overall structure of the course
  2. makes it easier to identify any gaps or redundancies
  3. maximizes the potential for successful learning outcomes
  4. maintains alignment among and between student learning outcomes (SLOs), learning activities, assessment, and feedback
  5. ensures content is logically sequenced
  6. provides flexibility to adapt and modify a course as needed
  7. surfaces areas for enhancement

Color-coding:

  1. strengthens alignment
  2. helps students better understand the assessment-objective alignment
  3. provides a flexible and fresh perspective for course design
