Teaching Expectations
Although everyone's classroom style and presence will be different, there are certain fundamental aspects of course design and teaching that we would expect to see in any course, in any modality, offered by the College of Business. Those minimum requirements include:
- Your course has a well-functioning Canvas site that is organized in a manner such that students can readily find key information, submit assignments, and participate fully in the course. (Rubric Download Rubric)
- Your course shows evidence of student engagement with you, student engagement with each other, and student engagement with the course content. (Rubric) Download Rubric)
- Your synchronous course meetings fully utilize course meeting times per the COB class meeting time policy
- Your course meetings and online materials demonstrate preparation, organization, and effective design that will enable students meet course learning outcomes.
- Your course materials, activities, and assessments align with course learning outcomes.
- Student assignments are graded and returned promptly (for most assignments, this would be within two weeks).
- Your course meets the OSU credit hour policy.
- Your course syllabi meet COB and OSU minimum expectations Links to an external site..
- You maintain scheduled office hours and establish positive teacher-student rapport inside and outside the classroom.
- Note that additional or specific requirements may apply to specific modalities (i.e., hybrid or online).
In addition, we expect all COB Faculty to meet the following expectations:
- You maintain currency in your course content, materials, and objectives.
- Your interactions with students are respectful and create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- You are well prepared for class sessions and demonstrate the ability to communicate subject matter clearly and in a manner that stimulates learning, creative thinking, and enthusiasm for the subject matter.
- You maintain grading standards that are fair and impartial and reflect challenging performance norms.
- You maintain scheduled office hours and establishes positive teacher-student rapport inside and outside the classroom.
- You participate in discipline related and college activities to revise and update curricula.
