Pay Your OSU Bill

While your paying-for-college journey is unique to you, one thing every student has in common is that when you enroll in classes, you are responsible for an OSU bill. Term-by-term billing can feel overwhelming at first, but once you understand the key rules, dates, and resources, it becomes much easier to manage.

What’s on My OSU Bill?

Your OSU bill is made up of direct expenses—charges billed through OSU, such as:

tuition and mandatory fees,
housing and dining (if you live on campus),
other OSU charges associated with your enrollment (when applicable).

Expenses outside of your OSU bill—like textbooks, off-campus rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, and personal expenses—are called indirect expenses. You will not see these costs on your OSU bill, but you still need a plan to pay for them.

Credit card payments for tuition are currently accepted online only (not in person or by phone) to help keep costs low.

How to Pay In Person or by Mail

Cash and checks are accepted in person at the Cashier’s Office in the lobby of the Kerr Administration Building.

Student Financial Services Agreement

Students are required to complete a Student Financial Services Agreement when logging into myBill. This document is a legal agreement between the student and Oregon State University.

The agreement explains your financial responsibility for tuition, fees, and other charges that result from registering for classes or receiving services from the University. By registering for classes (or receiving services), you agree to accept responsibility to pay all assessed charges by the published or assigned due date.

Student and University agree the services provided by University and the payments for those services by Student constitute sufficient and valid consideration for the Contract.

Understanding the Term Billing Process

The billing process happens every term you are enrolled. OSU publishes key billing dates on the Student Accounts website, and those dates guide when charges appear, when financial aid can pay out, and when payment is due.

Typical Billing Timeline

About 2 months before the term begins: If you are registered for classes, tuition and fees for the term are typically posted to your Student Account.
About 1–1.5 weeks before the term begins: If you have financial aid, it typically disburses (pays) directly to your Student Account if your aid requirements are satisfied and your enrollment matches what Financial Aid has on file for you.
- To check requirements, sign into the Financial Aid Portal and review your status.
- Financial Aid often assumes full-time enrollment (12+ credits). If you plan to enroll less than full-time, contact Financial Aid to understand how your aid may change.
- Financial aid generally pays out term-by-term. You do not typically receive your full year’s aid in your first term.
After aid or outside funding applies: Your bill will update based on what has been paid toward your charges.
- If your funding overpays what you owe OSU, you may receive a refund. Refunds are usually issued by check to the address on file unless you set up direct deposit. You can set up direct deposit through your BeaverHub account.
- If your funding underpays what you owe OSU, you will have a remaining balance that you are responsible for paying.
Billing notice and due date: If you have a balance you must pay, OSU typically emails a billing notice to your OSU email around the 5th–6th day of the first full month of the term. The remaining balance is typically due on the 1st of the following month.

Tip: Because billing and aid timing depends on enrollment and requirements, it’s smart to check your Student Account and OSU email regularly—especially in the weeks before the term starts.

If Your Bill Isn’t Paid on Time (or You Have a Balance)

If you anticipate you cannot pay your OSU bill by the deadline, look into payment plan options as early as possible. Payment plans can help you avoid fees and registration issues if you stay current on scheduled payments.

Fees and Holds (What to Know)

Unpaid account balances of more than $500 may be assessed a once-per-term $85 fee.
When registration opens for the next term (often around weeks 7–9), a registration hold may be added if:
- your account balance is greater than $500, or
- charges remain on your account from a previous term.
If you are enrolled in a payment plan and are current on payments, you may be excluded from the registration hold process.

If You Have a Registration Hold

If a registration hold is placed on your account, you will need to resolve it before you can register for the next term. If you do not register and still have an unpaid balance owing to OSU, future registration may not be possible until the balance is paid in full.
