BOT 406 Student Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Accurately interpret and transcibe herbarium specimen labels.
  • Utilize diverse tools to add geographic coordinates to historic and recent herbarium specimens.
  • Understand the role of herbarium specimen databases in biodiversity research.

Evaluation of Student Performance:

The course is pass / no pass. Every other Monday, students will submit a journal entry summarizing the number and types of specimens transcribed or georeferenced the previous two weeks. There is no set target number of specimens, but students are expected to devote 3 hours per week to the class. The course can count towards 30 hours of Experiential Learning for the Botany major.

With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, I understand that schedules need to be flexible. If you need an accommodation or extension for any reason, please do not hesitate to ask.

Statement Regarding Students with Disabilities:

Accommodations are collaborative efforts between students, faculty and Disability Access Services (DAS). Students with accommodations approved through DAS are responsible for contacting the faculty member in charge of the course prior to or during the first week of the term to discuss accommodations. Students who believe they are eligible for accommodations but who have not yet obtained approval through DAS should contact DAS immediately at 737-4098.
