0.5 Get Started: Tech Requirements & Getting Help
Getting help
Click the Help icon (?) at the bottom of the left side Canvas toolbar to find help and support options, including:
- The Canvas Guides
- The phone number for 24/7 Canvas Support for faculty and students
- A link to OSU's Canvas documentation and other OSU-supported instructional technologies
Computers, browsers, and software
Canvas runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, or any other device with a modern web browser. To be successful in a fully remote class, both you and your students need either a laptop or a desktop computer with the latest web browser versions and reliable internet access (preferably DSL/3G or faster).
Supported browsers
Canvas recommends Google Chrome for the best experience. We highly recommend updating to the newest version of whatever browser you are using as well as the most up-to-date Flash plug-in.
Mobile Canvas
Canvas on mobile browsers
Canvas does not officially support mobile browsers (e.g., iOS Safari, Chrome App, Firefox App). However, in some cases, using the mobile browser may provide a better experience than the official app. It is suggested that you try both methods to find which works best for your device and situation.
Canvas iOS and Android apps
Canvas recommends using the Canvas by Instructure app. The app is compatible with the following mobile operating systems, on both tablets and mobile phones:
- iOS 12.0+
- Android 5.0+
The app can be downloaded from the Play Store on Android or the App Store on iOS devices. Search for "Canvas by Instructure" and install.
