ACTIVITY E: Teaching in Fall 2020
- Due No Due Date
- Points None
Purpose
The purpose of this activity is to allow you to reflect on what you have learned about teaching and facilitation in this workshop, and identify concrete plans for engaging with, supporting, and being inclusive of your students in Fall 2020.
Instructions
Please plan to spend about 10 minutes on this activity.
If you are attending a workshop scheduled for your college, you will complete these activities in preparation for a synchronous session with the Keep Teaching team. If you are exploring this workshop on your own, complete the activity and then schedule a time to meet with one of your support resources if you have follow-up questions or need assistance in your planning.
- Draft your communication plan for your course, answering each of the questions from 3.9 Communicating with Your Students & Providing Feedback. How and where will you share this information with students? (You might complete this part of the activity by drafting a statement for your course syllabus, for example.)
- Identify 2-3 critical things that you can do in terms of your teaching this fall that will support your students and give them a meaningful learning experience. Consider some of the following questions:
- How will you welcome students to the course and get to know them individually?
- How will you help your students to create a sense of belonging and community with each other?
- How will you handle outreach to students who are not participating in the course or who you suspect are struggling?
- How will you provide accommodations to students who are experiencing very real challenges in their lives?
- How will you provide helpful, actionable feedback that supports students' progress and motivates them to keep going?
- How will you gather feedback from students along the way to help inform in you need to make changes to your plans?
