Canvas
Canvas is a Learning Management System (LMS). We use Canvas to provide students and instructors with:
- A single system for sending and receiving course information, assignments, and communications.
For students, we believe Canvas can also support student success by offering:
- A predictable system and structure that makes it simple and easy to find course materials, assignments, and due dates.
- A single technology they must learn in order to participate in online, hybrid, and face to face classes.
For faculty, we believe Canvas can also support instructional excellence by offering:
- Tools to support pedagogical goals (such as the use of discussions to support student-student interactions).
- Tools to support efficiency and effectiveness in course management and assessment (such as rubrics and online quizzes).
One of the COB's basic expectations for teaching includes the expectation that your course has a well-functioning Canvas site that is organized in a manner such that students can readily find key information, submit assignments, and participate fully in the course. Here is a rubric Download rubric that describes the components of this expectation.
You can find a range of training and support options at the Oregon State University Learn@OSU Canvas website. Here's a 30 minute introduction to Canvas webinar (recorded in 2019).
