Class Meeting Time Policy

Modality Meeting Policies

Faculty are expected to offer classroom meetings that correspond with the listed class modality, as discussed below, unless approved by the School Head.

For courses that have not been listed as “hybrid” schedule types:

  • On Campus: Faculty are expected to hold in-person classroom meetings for at least 90% of the meeting times listed in the course catalog.
  • Remote: Faculty are expected to hold synchronous remote class meetings for at least 70% of the course meeting times listed in the course catalog.
  • Ecampus: No synchronous course meetings UNLESS course is designated as an Ecampus remote hybrid, in which case they should follow the requirements for Remote/Hybrid courses listed below.

For undergraduate courses listed as “hybrid” schedule types:

  • Faculty are expected to hold weekly synchronous class meetings for at least 50% of the credit hours for the class. Typically, these class meeting times will be listed in the course catalog.
  • For example, a 4-credit hybrid course must have a minimum of 2 hours of synchronous class meetings per week.
  • For courses listed as On Campus/Hybrid, synchronous class meetings must be held in person.
  • For courses listed as Remote/Hybrid, synchronous class meetings must be held remotely.

For graduate courses listed as “hybrid” schedule types:

  • Synchronous meeting times are typically scheduled for 20% of the course credit hours. For these classes, faculty are expected to hold 100% of the scheduled course meeting times in synchronous format.
  • Unless the course is scheduled for “remote hybrid” delivery, these synchronous meetings must be held in person.

Office hours do not count toward synchronous meeting time requirements. Office hours are not an acceptable substitute for active learning and should be scheduled outside of synchronous learning time. Synchronous time may be used for required group check-ins or coaching, but not drop-in availability.

Faculty members must notify their School Head if they are going to be absent from a scheduled class period.
