Ongoing Developmental Opportunities for Research

Below are ongoing developmental opportunities available to aid in research efforts. Please feel free to add to this list. Only permanent / ongoing opportunities should be listed here. CARMA webcasts: The Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis offers webcasts on a wide array of topics, including hierarchical linear modeling, meta-analysis, power analysis, item response theory, latent and discontinuous growth models, range restriction, text mining, social network analysis, big data, event sampling analysis, and many others. You must be a registered CARMA website user to view samples, access the video library as part of a membership program, register your university for a membership program, and/or register for short courses. Under New Management podcasts: Since 2007, the OB Division of the Academy of Management has had an audio podcast called Under New Management. To access the podcasts, you can subscribe to the podcasts by searching for "Under New Management" in any podcast app or through iTunes. Under New Management is an innovative initiative within the OB Division to translate current, rigorous empirical research findings into practical management guidelines. Each podcast produced is an audio interview with the lead author of an OB study recently published or in-press in one of our area's top journals. The interviews typically last 8-15 minutes and consist of four parts: 1. Introduction of concepts of the study, 2. Brief explanation of methods, 3. Explanation of findings, 4. Practical implications for managers.

SIOP Conversation Series: An “Ask Me Anything” style format to “get to know the minds shaping the way we think about work” presented by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. All conversations are recorded and available as podcasts on iTunes or Google Play. Available speakers include Adam Grant, Fred Oswald, Nancy Tippins, John Boudreau, and David Peterson, to name a few, speaking on such topics as human capital, testing and assessment in the workplace, succession planning, diversity and justice at work, overqualification, mentoring, big data, culture change, among others.

Here, you can access YouTube videos that cover such topics as: implementing employee engagement initiatives in an organization; HR Analytics; evidence-based tactics for being both a better feedback provider and a better feedback recipient; a primer on developing, measuring, and reporting about training programs; and how to frame a story, tell it, and get an organization’s leadership to follow through and listen to what you have to say (among others).
